Fleetwood Presentation Evening 2011Hopeful
Olympic Modern Pentathlon athlete Katy Burke gained the prestigious Brian
Porter Award, named after the club's founder, at Fleetwood Swimming Club's 34th
Annual Presentation Evening last Saturday. Katy began her journey
to sporting stardom when she became a member of Fleetwood ASC club at eight
years old. She is now ranked 17th in the world and 3rd in Great Britain,
and will learn on 31st May 2012 whether she will compete for Great Britain in
next year’s Olympic competition. Unfortunately the club's most
talented member was unable to collect the award on the night as she was working
hard at the Modern Pentathlon Performance Centre in Bath. However, Katy will be
home in Cleveleys over the Christmas period when the award will be presented,
and she will enjoy some training with her friends at the Fleetwood Pool.
A whole
array of trophies and awards were given at the presentation evening to talented
swimmers aged from 6 to 17, for bronze, silver and gold in swim competitions
ranging from 25 meter freestyle to 400 meters individual medley, much to the
delight of their mums and dads. Pictured are the new club captains Katy
Lawson and Jack Hirst receiving their shirts from Elliot Myers, FST Head Coach.

Fleetwood
Swimming Club would like to say thanks to Mark and Michelle Beech for
their donation of a Fleetwood FC match ball, and also to Mark Spencer, G.P. for
donating framed and signed Blackpool and Fleetwood FC shirts. Both these
donations raised considerable sums at auction on the night. Thanks
also go to Ian Eccleston for his continued support.
Thanks to everyone for making the Presentation Evening such an excellent night, special thanks to Sue and Terry for all their hard work.
