Fleetwood Swimmers
make a splash across County and Kingdom.
In a busy six
week
period Fleetwood’s Swimmers have impressed from Bury to Manchester as
well as
two forays into Wales for galas at Wrexham.
The Inter
Association
competition held at Bury saw 4 swimmers honoured with selection for the
North Lancs.
team competing against the best from Liverpool, Cumbria, North Midlands,
Bolton
and Manchester, Central Lancashire and Cheshire. Bradley Sharples
collected 2
silver and a bronze medal to accompany his North Lancs. Red Rose
representatives badge. Hannah Roe won silver and bronze and her
representative
badge. Gaby Davey also won her representative badge whilst Alex Myers
was
forced to miss the competition through illness. At the end of the meet
the
North Lancashire team won by 3½ points. Well done to all of the Swimmers and thanks to the North Lancs. Team

At the North
West
Youth Regional’s held at Liverpool aquatics centre, Martha Hirst yet
again
showed her pedigree as she was crowned the region’s best 1500m swimmer
taking
the coveted gold medal. Jacob Hancock’s impressive development continued
with
appearances in 2 events, the 200 and 400 freestyle.
Followed by the
North
West Age Group Regional’s, held at Manchester's aquatic centre over
successive
weekends Fleetwood were represented by 5 swimmers with qualifying times
in over
30 events. 10 year old Bradley Sharples qualified for, and made the
final of,
11 events. He was sensational in winning 3 silver and 3 bronze as well
as the
3rd best boy in his age group award. 10 year old Hannah Roe qualified
for 7
events and made the final in 4 with a 4th place finish her highlight in a
very
strong age category. Tommy Humphries had an impressive debut making the
finals in
3 of his 4 qualifying events. He was rewarded with a 4th place finish
and 7th
best boy in the 10yo age category.
The first of two
trips to Wrexham was for the 7th spring meet where 12 Fleetwood swimmers
took
part. 10yo Charlotte Grogan won a 5th and a 6th place medal and fellow
10yo
Ciara Barcock a 6th place medal.10yo Amy Butler won a bronze and four
6th place
medals whilst Rebecca Williams (13) picked up a silver, two 5ths and a
6th
place medal. Jess Williams (10) won an impressive silver and bronze
medal. Pick
of the swimmers was 10yo Kieran Wade who was rewarded with a gold,
silver and
bronze medal clean sweep. Luke Waite (10) won silver, a bronze, and a
4th and a
5th place medal. There was a 6th place medal apiece for 11yo Dillan
Nicholson
and 13yo Katie Lawson whilst 10yo Millie Simpson impressed with a 4th
and a 5th
place medal.
Fleetwood’s
second
forage over the border saw a contingent of 19 swimmers attend the Cath
Ankers
meet. They returned with an impressive combined haul of 37 medals, 2
speeding tickets
and 50 personal bests. William Eccleston was sensational winning a
speeding
ticket, 2 gold and 2 bronze medals whilst setting 5pbs and totally
dominating
his 12yo age group. 11yo Callum Preece won 2 gold, 2 silver and set 4pbs
whilst
13yo Katie Lawson won a deserved gold medal and set 2pbs. Beth Manning
(11) won
a silver, 2 bronze and a 4th place medal whilst setting herself 4 new
pbs. 10yo
Ciara Barcocks 2pbs brought her a richly deserved speeding ticket and a
silver
medal whilst Millie Simpson, also 10, swam with a determination which
brought
her 2 new pbs, a silver medal and a 4th place medal. Kyle Preece (11)
won silver
and a bronze to accompany a new pb whilst Rebecca Robinsons (13) silver
medal
was complimented by 4 excellent pbs. 9yo Shona McGreevy put in a
nerveless
performance and her 4pbs brought her bronze, a 4th, a 5th and a 6th
place
medals. 10yo Jess Williams' 2pbs got her a bronze and a 6th place medal
whilst
Charlotte Grogan was delighted with her bronze, 4th and 6th place medals
and 2
new pbs. 12yo Gaby Davey won a 5th and two 6th place medals to accompany
her 4
new pbs whilst 10yo Luke Waites 5th and 6th place medals and 1 new pb
were well
deserved. Kieran Wade followed up where he left off picking up an
excellent
bronze medal and setting 2 new pbs. 13yo Rebecca Williams picked up a
6th place
medal and set 4pbs. 11yo Emily Ecclestons determination was unmatched at
the
gala and her 4 huge pbs were great reward for her efforts. Lauryn
Grassie
achieved 2 excellent pbs and Dillan Nicholson set himself a new pb.
Head coach Elliott
Myers was well pleased with all the swimmers efforts adding that the
results
show the strength and depth of quality swimmers at the club.
